Our Mission
Compliance Does Not Equal Competence.
100% of marine accidents involve STCW-trained personnel. The same principle applies to offshore renewables, oil and gas personnel. At Independent Marine, we acknowledge the dangerous limitations of standard maritime education, generic insurance protocols, and base compliance enforcement. We bridge the gap between paper certificates and real-world offshore resilience.

Captain Scott Campbell MN
Founder & Managing Director
Captain Scott Campbell brings a rare, 360° perspective to maritime operations, combining command experience with high-level regulatory and publishing expertise. Holding a degree in Marine and Coastal Planning from Aberdeen and foundational experience in the Royal Navy Reserve, his seagoing career rapidly advanced from navigating P2000 patrol boats to navigating 6-star luxury cruise vessels. Embarking on global itineraries, including extensive operations throughout the Caribbean and Alaskan waters, during the critical industry transition from paper to ECDIS taught him the need for adaptability.
Transitioning to the high-stakes offshore energy sector, Captain Campbell served as a Senior DPO and Chief Officer aboard supply and drillships across the Eastern Mediterranean, Middle East, and the unforgiving environments of the Central and Northern North Sea. Seeking to bridge the gap between shipboard realities and shoreside management, he subsequently served as a Navigation Specialist for the Admiralty. He later spent several years as Head of Navigation Publications for a major commercial publisher, managing GIS teams and shadowing marine pilots to deepen his understanding of complex traffic situations, deep draught tankers and gas carriers, and challenging port operations.
Driven by a hands-on ethos, Captain Campbell returned to sea to specialize in subsea construction and offshore renewables. Taking command of workboats, Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs), and providing critical support for cable lay and cable repair ships, he has directed high-risk operations including PLGR, diver support, and anchor handling. This deep, practical experience in Offshore Renewable Energy Installations (OREI) and subsea construction makes him a leading operational authority, particularly within the demanding North Sea sector.
Today, he leverages this unique synthesis of field command and regulatory knowledge to deliver uncompromising, independent consultancy across UK, EU, and US markets. He has authored twelve MCA-approved STCW training courses, consulted on major port development projects, and audited Safety Management Systems (SMS) for global shipping companies. Captain Campbell founded Independent Marine Ltd. to cut through bureaucratic confusion, and provide heavily regulated maritime businesses with the practical, real-world strategies needed to achieve genuine operational resilience.
